CWC Preseason Dinner – An Exciting Night!
On October 16, the Cyclone Wrestling Club held its Fourth Annual Pre-season Kickoff Dinner at the 7-Flags Event Center in Des Moines. You could feel the excitement build as Cyclone wrestling fans reminisced about the success of last year’s team and then looked forward to the fantastic possibilities of the upcoming year. Trent Paulson spoke on behalf of the Cyclone Wrestling Club wrestlers Travis Paulson, Nate Gallick and himself about their goals of competing for the USA on the International level. Seniors Nick Fanthorpe, Nick Gallick and Jake Varner each spoke of their experiences wrestling for Iowa State and their goals of finishing as National Champions in March. Head Coach Kevin Jackson and assistant coaches Chris Bono and Yero Washington talked about preparing the team for the upcoming season and having them ready to finish in March as the National Championship Team.
The success of our kickoff dinner couldn’t have been done without the contributions to the night’s events from several of our club members. Thanks go out to Les Anderson, Jim McCullough, Richard Marshall, John and Renee McPhee, Darrel and Becky Willhite, Allan Richards, Brad and Bev Jensen, Dennis Meyers, Kelly and Nina Biensen and Todd Hunt for the items they donated for our live and silent auctions.
Thank you also to Frank Santana for the use of 7-Flags Convention Center and Gary Lynch and Lynch’s Bar-B-Que for the wonderful food. Another thank you goes to Renee McPhee for the great job she did decorating for the evening’s event.
Cyclone Wrestling Club Golf Outing a Huge Success!
The Cyclone Wrestling Club held its annual golf outing on Friday, June 5th and from all accounts it was tremendous success. The sun shone brilliantly on the approximately 100 Cyclone fans that were in attendance. The participants enjoyed a tremendous day of golf courtesy of one of the key sponsors of the day - Cecil Rueter and The Hill Golf Course. Participants then gathered at the club house to hear from Head Coach Kevin Jackson and new assistant coaches Chris Bono, Yero Washington and Nate Gallick. Finally, everyone enjoyed an outstanding meal thanks to our second key sponsor of the day Gary Lynch and Lynch BBQ.
The CWC Golf Outing is a major fundraiser for the club and this year was not different as the CWC Golf Outing raised over $12,000 for Cyclone wrestling. “This money will help us as we strive to reach our vision of making the Cyclone wrestling program the best wrestling program in the world,” stated Jeff Murphy, CWC President. “Coaches Jackson, Bono, Washington and Gallick have some outstanding plans for the future, and our mission at the CWC is to raise enough money to allow those plans to be successfully implemented. We want to offer a tremendous THANKS to all those who participated, sponsored and/or volunteered at the CWC golf outing.”
