"All In" Team Quotes

  • A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION – The preparation is where
    success is truly found.

  • A SUCCESSFUL JOURNEY IS THE DESTINATION – Outcome of a match is simply a
by-product of the effort you made to prepare. Understand your destination is a
successful journey—namely, total, complete, and detailed preparation. Too often
we neglect our journey in our eagerness or anxiety about reaching the goal.

  • FAILURES AND MISTAKES – “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”

  • BLAMING OTHERS – You can make mistakes, but you aren’t a failure until you
start blaming others for those mistakes. When you blame others, you are trying
to excuse yourself. When you make excuses, you can’t properly evaluate
yourself. Without proper self-evaluation, failure is inevitable.

  • UNDERDOGS – I have never gone into a match thinking I was going to lose.
Never. Even though there have been matches where even experts said there was
no way I could win. Even though if I was the big underdog, I always felt anything
could happen. Often enough, I was right. That’s also why I never assumed I was
    going to win.

  • THE OPINION OF OTHERS – Do not become too concerned about what others
may think of you. Be very concerned about what you think of yourself. Be True To Yourself.

  • DETAILS CREATE SUCCESS – Believe in basics, pay attention to, make perfection
    to tiny details.

  • DETAILS CREATE SUCCESS – There are differences between champions and near
    champions.

  • DETAILS CREATE SUCCESS – When you see a successful individual, a champion,
a “winner”, you can be very sure that you are looking at an individual who pays
attention to the perfection of minor details.

  • HOPES AND DREAMS – Mix idealism with realism and add hard work. This will
often bring much more than you could ever hope for.

Team Philosophy

Complete Wrestling!

Complete wrestling means:
Continue to wrestle to the winning position from all positions
Never give/concede points
Take advantage of all scoring opportunities
Score at the end of periods
Score points and work for the fall

Unacceptable:
Not scoring takedowns in the first period
Giving up a riding time point
Allowing your opponent to escape in 20 seconds or less in the period
Getting beat with your own technique (example: spin arounds)
Giving up near fall points
Getting pinned

Straight From The Handbook

Rehydration Time Frame (1 hour to start of competition)

Goals:

  • 1. Fluid Replacement!!! Key – A 4-6% level of dehydration will cause reduced Muscular Strength, Reduced Endurance Time, and Heat Cramps…Have to always remember that wrestling is a power/strength anaerobic sport…
    • a. Electrolytes and Carbohydrate in a sports drink will stimulate the uptake of water more rapidly than simply water alone
      b. Best Drinks: PowerAde, Gatorade, Pedialyte
      c. Avoid: Sodas and juices…Sports Drinks are formulated differently with lower amounts of carbohydrate and higher electrolytes then sweetened sodas or most juices
  • 2. Minimize GI Distress/Provide Carbohydrate for Fuel: A variety of foods can be considered as long as GI distress isn’t an issue. Food/drink choices should be appealing to you with adequate time to consume.
    • a. Athlete should begin to know type, timing and amount of food that works best for him
      • i. High fat foods can sometimes be a problem
ii. Athlete should practice in minor competitions or a regular practice the types of foods that sit best for them. Some athletes prefer bars, others dinner roll/bread, pasta with some chicken
  • 3. Detecting Problems: Diarrhea from Rapid consumption:
    • a. When sugar levels are too high, your body tries to dilute the sugar by drawing water from the blood stream into the intestine, which when causes diarrhea.
    • b. If consuming plain water in large volumes your gastric emptying will be very fast as well – large volumes empty at a much faster rate than small volumes.
  • 4. Key: Athlete must pace himself and avoid drinking too fast and the wrong type of beverage post weigh in.

  • 5. Other Nutrition Advice:
    • Omega-3 supplementation during intensive wrestling training can improve pulmonary function of athletes during and in post-exercise
    • a. Great brand is Nordic Natura
